Bierbaum Student Council Raises Money for Fire Department Safehouse
Student Council members at Bierbaum Elementary School presented a check for $694 to the Mehlville Fire Protection District Tuesday, February 11th. The check is in honor of Brian Davis, a second-grader at Bierbaum who was killed in a house fire last year.

Mehlville Assistant Fire Chief Dan LaFata said the money will go towards a fire department safe house program. A safe house is a fire training tool where young people can practice what they need to do to escape from a house fire.

Bierbaum Elementary Student Council members raised the $694 by selling 10-cent candy canes in school before the holidays. Click here to view slideshow.

It's a Banner Day
They rocked the house on Friday, Dec. 13, as the school showed off its National School of Character banner during an assembly. Congrats to all...you earned it! Click here to view video.

Bierbaum Named National School of Character
Bierbaum Elementary has been selected as a National School of Character by the Character Education Partnership (CEP) in Washington, DC.  Only 29 schools and districts in the United States were given the award this year! Bierbaum is one of five Mehlville School District schools to be named National Schools of Character. The other four are Beasley Elementary, Hagemann Elementary, Trautwein Elementary and Mehlville High School.

"Each of these schools has a uniquely inspirational story of success in education, said National School of Character Director Lara Maupin. "Schools of Character are places that foster more than just academic growth--these are nurturing educational communities that support parents in their most important job--raising kids."

Bierbaum will hold the honor as a National School of Character for five years. Congratulations to all our students, teachers and staff!
